ADOPT A SCHOOL PROJECT

ASP-1  PROJECT REPORT [ EVALUATIVE]
EHUREN COMMUNITY LIBRARY PROJECT
The first phase of the Adopt a School Project, ASP1, which included the stocking of a structure for the purpose of serving as a community library has been completed.
The seven member team  that represented Greeneration and did the presentation of books and clothes to the Ehuren community comprised of
Kenneth Neequaye
Harriet Apedo
Kojo Danso
Judah Okine
Jacqueline Asamoah and
Miranda Quianoo and John Siisi of Pass- a-Book-on
The group went with public transport and set off from Accra at about 8 am and arrived at about 1:30 pm.
On arrival the group met with the pupils and teachers of the Ehuren Methodist school who received the donation on behalf of the community.

From there, the team together with some of the students and teachers moved to the library structure to sort and arrange the books into sections according to subject and level.

The students were very excited about their new library. They interacted freely with members of the group and didn't seem to have enough of the pictures and came

ra.

Some members of the group left the same day at about 3:30 because they had to report to work or school the next day and four slept over and returned a day after.

Finance
         Donation
About five hundred books and some clothes were collected in bits from individuals who had no more need for them.
         Transportation
Funds were raised through speaking to individuals on a one on one basis about the project and asking them to help the course.

One major challenge the group encountered was getting transportation. The initial idea was to fuel a bus and pay the driver because the owner had opted to lease it to us for free but we were not able to raise enough funds to do that.
That meant going by public transport and it came with a lot of inconveniences
Also the the fares had been increased just after the christmas and this was not kwon to the group so the buget was over spent.
Challenges
The project has begun, and so far so good.
But there is still more work to be done.
The library still needs books in the following categories;
         Reference materials like dictionaries
Novels and reading materials for early beginers
Text books especially for Senior High School level

There is also no furniture in the library and the users of the facility sometimes have to carry benches
from a nearby church to read or partake in lessons at the library.
Most of  them however sit on the floor.

Recommendation
Planning for other projects should begin early so that proper transportation preparations can be made.
